The material is moisture-resistant, doesn't support mold growth, and won't delaminate the way paper-faced gypsum does when it gets wet. It's also a common choice for quick turnarounds in commercial fit-outs, where scheduling certainty matters as much as the material specs.

It's not a one-for-one drywall replacement for every situation, and I'd be the first to say that. For a living room with normal humidity, drywall is fine and cheaper.
